Pizza Pizza Vs. Pizza Hut

It can be hard to find good pizza. For decades in the states, the debate between who has the better slice has always been between two chief rivals: Pizza Hut and Domino’s. There have been other competitors that have entered the conversation – Little Caesars had its moment – but the conversation has generally stayed between the two. A third alternative from the North might be worth considering.

Most people in Canada tend to prefer Pizza Pizza. Not only does Pizza Pizza offer more variety, but it’s also cheaper than Pizza Hut. However, since Pizza Pizza is not available in the US, Pizza Hut wins by default the minute you cross the border into America.

Since everyone and their roommate has tried to match Pizza Hut vs. Domino’s, Pizza Hut vs. store-bought pizza rolls and any other comparison that comes to mind, this blog will be a showdown between the alleged king of pizza chains, Pizza Hut and its Canadian rival.

Pizza Pizza Vs. Pizza Hut

In the battle between Pizza Pizza vs. Pizza Hut, there are a few key areas one needs to consider to decide which is superior.

Pizza Pizza

Pizza Pizza is one of the largest Canadian chains, but that comes with drawbacks. For one thing, chains of that size tend to vary in quality from location to location; you never know what you’re going to get. However, whatever you’re getting is likely cheaper than Pizza Hut. It’s also usually freshly made.

Pizza

The pizza itself is not the best and not the worst according to most Canadians. Some complain that they overwhelm the pizza with cheese, but the wide variety of toppings can often offset this.

Customization

When it comes to toppings and customization options, there’s probably no better pizza chain in Canada. All expected ingredients are there, and they’ve included gluten-free options for those with allergies as well as new, experimental offerings such as cauliflower pizza. The website makes it easy to select your toppings for all or half the pizza.

Sides

Side orders are one of the biggest attractions to Pizza Pizza, as you could reasonably make an entire meal out of them without a pizza at all. Breadsticks are just the beginning, they also offer cheesy bread, fries, onion rings, jalapeno poppers and several other unexpected delights.

Delivery

Pizza Pizza is pretty much available anywhere in Canada, provided a location is in your area. Until recent conditions made it impossible, they also had a 45-minute guarantee. Though they don’t promise it any longer, your pizza should arrive within that time frame.

Price

Oddly, pizza in some parts of Canada is one of the most expensive dishes to order out. Pizza Pizza is one of the cheapest major chains. Typically, you’re able to get a large pizza for around $20, depending on their deals at the time.

Pizza Hut

For whatever reason, the American import has not been as well-received in Canada as the local favorite. Pizza Hut is still a popular option, but reviews online suggest a lack of commitment to the pizza that’s so evident in the U.S.

Pizza

Pizza Pizza has been accused of using too much cheese, but Pizza Hut is probably a better example of the same problem. It’s not just overloaded with cheese, the cheese does not seem all that authentic. The word “plastic” has been thrown around online more than once.

Customization

Pizza Hut offers a lot of different kinds of pizza with fancy names, and you can create your own, though the toppings are pretty much what you’d expect on a pizza. The invention comes in the different names and designs of the pizzas, which can be fun. There’s no real invention to their toppings, but there’s nothing wrong with an ordinary slice of pie.

Sides

The sides, once again, are essentially what one would expect from a pizza chain. Breadsticks, P’zones and wings. Pizza Hut is enormously proud of its wings and with good reason. It’s reasonable to believe they sell as well if not better than their pizza.

Price

It can be hard to find cheap pizza in Canada, but Pizza Hut is one of the pricier options. If you’re ordering delivery, expect to spend no less than $35. Check out the Triple Treat Box to save some money.

Delivery

Pizza Hut is notoriously problematic when it comes to delivery. They rarely arrive within the timeframe, and there’s more than one instance online of the pizza never showing up at all. It’s really quite surprising considering their popularity in the US.

Overwhelmingly, Pizza Pizza is the preferred option for Canadians, however, there are still more popular choices out there. One might want to try something local, where they’ll often be pleasantly surprised.
