Sometimes, after a long day of work, there are few things that can beat throwing a frozen pizza in your oven, kicking your feet up in the air, and cutting the TV on for some mindless escape. I know that I’m usually pretty big on making my own handmade pizzas, but let’s be honest- that takes work.
The best frozen pizza I’ve had to date is Amy’s Pizza Margherita. The crust has the perfect level of crunch, the toppings are delicious, and you don’t have to worry about a bunch of preservatives! Whether you’re looking for something for yourself or to feed a couple of friends, this is a great choice.
They sell it at the local Whole Foods market by my house, but if you don’t have the same luxury, then you may be able to get it delivered through Amazon’s 2-hour food delivery service. Unless it’s a weekend or a holiday, the chances are that I’m eating a frozen pizza. They’re just simpler and easier. However, I don’t just easy any frozen pizza. Amy’s is the bomb.
What’s So Special About Amy’s Margherita Pizza?
Generally speaking, I like simple pizza. Rarely will you ever see me sit down to eat a giant, hulking slice of meat-lovers pizza. Instead, I prefer the simple ingredients: tomatoes, cheese, basil, rosemary, maybe a couple of olives… You get the picture!
This simplicity is precisely why I enjoy Margherita pizza. It’s modeled after the original Neapolitan style pizzas that originated in Naples, Italy, but this pizza is a little bit heavier on the ingredients.
Amy’s is a small family-owned company that’s been making high-quality, organic, GMO-free frozen meals since 1987. I know what you’re probably thinking… Organic food is way too expensive!
In many cases, I’d be inclined to agree. However, with Amy’s pizza, you can really tell the difference. The toppings just taste so much fresher. They don’t taste like they’ve been sitting in a deep freezer for five years. Instead, they taste very similar to what you’d expect in a restaurant. Sure they might not be quite as juicy, but they’re close enough for most people not to notice.
Is Pizza Margherita Vegetarian/Vegan?
I’m not a vegetarian myself. However, since the price of good meat has been on the rise, I’ve found myself eating more and more vegetarian and vegan meals. They’re simple, easy-to-make, and I can give myself a pat on the back for being environmentally conscious. If you’re vegetarian, I’ve got great news for you- Amy’s is 100% vegetarian.
If you’re vegan, then you’ll want to grab Amy’s vegan Margharita pizza instead. It has the same basic ingredients but uses vegan “Daiya” cheese instead of mozzarella. I’ve never tried the vegan pizza personally, but the traditional Margherita pizza has become a family favorite.
It’s Just Frozen Pizza… What’s The Big Deal?
For those of you tempted to write Amy’s Margherita off as “just another frozen pizza,” I have to inform you that Amy’s is not. As I mentioned, I’ve been very skeptical of frozen pizzas in the past, so this is coming from a very picky eater- Amy’s has some of the best-tasting frozen pizza I’ve ever had.
Ultimately, good pizza is all about using the right ingredients. This is something that Amy’s has made a commitment to doing, and it shows when you finally take it out of the oven and eat your first slice. Whether you’re eating their Margherita pizza or their cauliflower pizza, the freshness is undeniable. The crust is simple and doesn’t use a million chemicals, bleach, and/or preservatives, and the veggies used on the pizza are frozen while they’re still fresh.
Amy’s Pizza Margherita: Thin-Crust Vs. Traditional
If you’ve already taken the time to check out the brand, then you may have noticed that Amy’s offers two varieties of their Margherita pizza: traditional and thin-crust. I’ve had both, and I personally prefer the traditional.
I think that it complements the fresh tomatoes and mozzarella a bit better than the thin-crust option. However, if you’re the type who enjoys an extra-crispy pizza crust or you just want to try something different, then the thin crust will be just as satisfactory.
What’s The Best Way To Cook Amy’s Pizza Margherita?
In my opinion, the best way to cook Amy’s frozen pizza is to use a pizza oven like the Ooni or Roccbox. They’re the most likely to produce that authentic wood-fired Italian pizza flavor and texture that you’re used to tasting at restaurants. However, if you don’t have an oven, then you can get similar results by using a decent pizza stone or pizza steel.
