As a true pizza lover, hearing about someone making a gluten-free pizza was, at first glance, blasphemy. Still, prejudices or not, I had to try this novelty, and trust me, I wasn’t disappointed. I have found the best gluten-free pizza. They’re so good, and even the hard-core Italian pizza chefs will have nothing to complain about. 

The best gluten-free pizza is made from rice or corn starch mixed with tapioca or a mixture of these starches. Flour made of these ingredients will create a natural crust. Pizza will taste the same way as traditional Italian dish.

But what I don’t like about this crust is its taste or even the absence of flavor. The toppings will taste better if you add some spices on top, and don’t expect too much chew either. The topping is tomato paste, onion and garlic powder, whole milk mozzarella, and white cheddar, and in my opinion, there should be more cheese involved. But the biggest downside about this pizza is its size compared to the price. If you wish your whole family to eat, you will need a couple of more packages. 

Daiya Dairy-Free and Gluten-Free Frozen Pizza 

Daiya makes gluten and dairy-free pizzas with a crust of tapioca starch and rice flour. This combination creates a perfect crunchiness of the bread, which is nice and thin. The toppings and ingredients are of excellent quality. You will get basil and tomato-based sauce with a bit of olive, garlic, and oregano powder. The only thing that is weird about this product is the cheese. Let’s face it – it is not real cheese, but a plant-based variant that has a jello kind of texture when melted. But if you are used to dairy-free products, this will be excellent for you.

Against the Grain Gourmet GF Pizza

The chewy yet thin and crunchy pie is made from tapioca starch, milk, and eggs. It is probably one of the greatest choices out there. And even though it’s a bit pricey, it’s worth every penny. The tomato paste tasted like homemade tomato sauce, and best of all, they did not skimp on cheese here. Also, you can buy a GF shell and create your own toppings the way you like. I prefer this method because I get to choose what kind of cheese and salami to put on top of it. 

Freschetta GF Four Cheese Pizza 

Freschetta will be a surprise for true Italian sliced delicacy lovers because you will not be able to tell this is GF. It is made from rice starch and tapioca, making one of the greatest crusts out there. And even though it is frozen, the ingredients are fresh and tasty. The four cheese pizzas will come with real mozzarella, asiago, fontina, and parmesan cheeses. Combine that with a crunchy, flaky pie and flavorful marinara, and you will get the best frozen pizza bread out there. There are three kinds of pizzas you can buy:

In my opinion, there is nothing better than preparing a dish yourself. And as you know, the beauty of a good slice is in simplicity and high-quality products. So I decided to search for the greatest GF dough recipe, and I found one that makes a thin and crunchy crust that tastes excellent. One thing is for sure – if you create a good dough and place fresh ingredients on your crust, it will be better than all the frozen options, even if you are not that good in a kitchen.

All in all, you will need the following ingredients: 

  • GF flour,
  • Instant dry yeast,
  • Salt,
  • Sugar,
  • Instant yeast,
  • Olive oil,
  • Baking soda,
  • Warm water.

Mix warm weather sugar and yeast in one cup and wait for the yeast to proof. Take one large bowl and mix all the required dry ingredients. What if you yearn for a restaurant-quality GF pizza? And I’m not talking about the gluten-free Costco pizza or any other frozen version (although it can be the easy solution, I admit). Here’s what you’ll need for that easy, yet delightful and fresh sauce and topping, so you can make it at home:

  • 2 tablespoons of extra-virgin olive oil,
  • 1 finely chopped smaller onion,
  • 1 can of chopped tomatoes,
  • 2 tablespoons of tomato purée,
  • 1 tablespoon of caster sugar,
  • Half a bunch of fresh basil leaves, shredded to your liking,
  • Some high-quality mozzarella cheese.

Take a small saucepan heat the olive oil, and add the onion. Cook it with a pinch of salt over low heat, until it’s softened. The next step is to add the tomatoes together with the purée and sugar and bring it to a simmer. Leave it to simmer on low heat for 25 to 30 minutes, while the pot is uncovered. Stir it regularly, until the sauce is thick and reduced. Next, use a hand blender until you see the sauce is smooth. Add the seasoning to your taste, and stir in the chopped basil leaves. Use it when it’s cooled down a bit, and throw the torn-up mozzarella on top.
